Fire Concerns Lead PECO To Halt Smart Meter Installations

Philadelphia Electric Company responds to public concern (Editorial and VIDEO)

What is stopping BC Hydro from halting installations until a proper investigation can occur? Every fire chief, media person, City Council and MLA in BC needs to see this news.  We have had many incidents in BC that have been reported and many more that have not.  The fire commissioner in BC is not keeping track due to lack of having a code specific to smart meters.  What is Hydro waiting for?

"After at least two fires and over a dozen incidents of overheating, PECO is halting its controversial smart meter installation program . . .

"PECO had plans to install 1.6 million of the so-called smart meters.

"The digital units are designed to conserve energy and help customers monitor their usage.

"But over the past few months, concerns and complaints have grown that the installation of these new meters have sparked fires, including two recently in Bucks County.

"Now, PECO is stopping installations as it takes a hard look at the meters and prepares to put safety measures in place . . .

"In this video . . . property owners who were impacted by the fires."

Installer Speaks of Smart Meter Problems  (includes video)

"It's been just two days since regional energy giant PECO abruptly halted its federally funded smart meter installation program, yet the utility has already received 1,000 calls from customers.  According to a PECO spokesperson, most of the calls are from consumers seeking answers to questions about smart meters, but 200 of the callers have asked PECO to send a crew to their homes to inspect meters or electrical equipment . . .

At the end of the interview with PECO their spokesperson says they are installing new meters from a different company and hope "to learn how they will perform." Shouldn't they "know" before installing?
