New Internet Forum for the EHS Community

to discuss issues, schooling choices, white zones and safe places

Victor (based in British Columbia, Canada) has set up a new discussion board on the internet. Victor recently shared the following announcement:

The EHS community has been lacking a web forum to discuss issues, schooling choices, white zones and safe places. RF levels in the cities have gradually been increasing while safety standards have been slow to change although recognition of the concerns have become more widely known.

Most of our discussions occur through email. Responding to a request, I have setup an internet discussion board called EHS CONNECT for our community to discuss our particular issues and concerns. You may visit the forum by clicking on this link: EHSconnect.boardhost.com

The forum is searchable and provides a consistent location for information to be archived and forwarded to others for easy reference. This removes some risk in forwarding emails and addresses some privacy concerns during email discussions.

If you think of new forum categories that should be included in the forum, do let me know and I will consider it. It is a meeting place for like minded individuals to support each other. As with anything else, the forum will only be as good as the people who make up the forum.

Please drop in for a visit and if you recognize the value in such a forum, kindly forward its link to others who may benefit from it.

Best wishes,
Victor

Brain Diseases Affecting More People

and Starting Earlier Than Ever Before

From an article published in ScienceDaily May 10, 2013:

First paragraph:
"Professor Colin Pritchard's latest research published in journal Public Health has found that the sharp rise of dementia and other neurological deaths in people under 74 cannot be put down to the fact that we are living longer. The rise is because a higher proportion of old people are being affected by such conditions -- and what is really alarming, it is starting earlier and affecting people under 55 years."

Final paragraph:
"When asked what he thought caused the increases he replied, 'This has to be speculative but it cannot be genetic because the period is too short. Whilst there will be some influence of more elderly people, it does not account for the earlier onset; the differences between countries nor the fact that more women have been affected, as their lives have changed more than men's over the period, all indicates multiple environmental factors. Considering the changes over the last 30 years -- the explosion in electronic devices, rises in background non-ionising radiation- PC's, micro waves, TV's, mobile phones; road and air transport up four-fold increasing background petro-chemical pollution; chemical additives to food etc. There is no one factor rather the likely interaction between all these environmental triggers, reflecting changes in other conditions. For example, whilst cancer deaths are down substantially, cancer incidence continues to rise; levels of asthma are un-precedented; the fall in male sperm counts -- the rise of auto-immune diseases -- all point to life-style and environmental influences. These "statistics" are about real people and families, and we need to recognise that there is an "epidemic" that clearly is influenced by environmental and societal changes.'"

Swedish review strengthens grounds

for concluding that radiation from cellular and cordless phones is a probable human carcinogen

From the Abstract in the journal Pathophysiology:

"Many nations, phone manufacturers, and expert groups, advise prevention in light of these concerns by taking the simple precaution of 'distance' to minimize exposures to the brain and body. We note than brain cancer is the proverbial 'tip of the iceberg'; the rest of the body is also showing effects other than cancers."

The full text of the article mentions the view about changing classification of RF-EMF (electromagetic radiation from wireless devices) to a "probable human carcinogen".

Refugees of the Modern World

The "electrosensitive" are moving to a cellphone-free town. But is their disease real?

" . . . Even a skeptical thinker can be briefly entranced by the notion that researchers may have simply failed, so far, to uncover a real disease--as Carl Sagan was fond of saying, "the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence." It's especially tempting when talking to someone like Nicols Fox, who reported for the Economist on food safety issues for more than a decade and wrote three books before moving to the nearby town of Renick, W.V., in 2008 in an attempt to control her EHS. A science-minded person who probably would have once scoffed at the idea of hypersensitivity, she gradually came to believe that her shooting pains, unpredictably plunging heart rates, and difficulty speaking were a result of years in front of a computer. "I got more and more sensitive, and eventually there was a day when my body just screamed when I touched the keyboard," she said.

"Now, she lives simply in a little two-bedroom house on a forested ridge and does her writing on a typewriter (she's working on a novel), mirroring the Luddite tradition she once wrote a book about. At night, she wears a shirt woven with silver fibers to reduce her radio frequency exposure, and though her house has electricity, she shuts it off and uses gas lamps whenever possible. During our conversation, her voice would occasionally get cracked and raspy if I got too close with my audio recorder. In the five years since she's moved to the Radio Quiet Zone, she hasn't left once.

The Effect of Microwaves on the Central Nervous System "STILL HOT"

1965- Translated from the German for Research and Scientific Laboratory Ford Motor Company W. Bergman

The author wishes to thank the Management of the Research and Scientific Laboratory of Ford Motor Company for undertaking translation and printing of this paper.

Abstract (1965)

The autonomic nervous system is affected by the microwaves of the centimetre wavelength band. These waved affect circulation, respiration, temperature control, water balance, albumin and sugar concentration in the cerebro-spinal fluid, hydrogen ion concentration, EEG, GSR, sleep, conscious awareness, etc. Depending on the applied dosage, these waves stimulate the sympathetic or parasympathetic system. Very small dosages produce analgesic effects; however very large dosages are fatal. An undamped or modulated frequency is more effective than damped waves. The biological effects of these waves results from the resonance absorption in the ganglia. There are indications that only higher harmonics, and not the fundamental frequency, produce biological effects. The shielding of the test subject by metal screens increases these effects; however, magnetic fields remove them. Higher harmonics producing these biological effects have physical properties which are similar to those of the bio-electrical energy generated by the human body. The mechanism of hypothesis is explained by the transmission of this energy.

iPads Could Affect Implanted Heart Devices

Early Study - Young researcher suggests that users avoid placing tablets too close to the chest

" . . . The bottom line? Insinga at Cushing Neuroscience recommended that physicians discuss with their patients the risks that technological devices may pose to the settings and function of any implanted devices, and check their patients' medical devices frequently. "No more 'set it and forget it,'" he said.

"Chien thinks the issue will continue to pose problems unless the design of tablets changes. "With the aging of the population, there's an expected increase in ICD placement and, with more than 100 million iPads sold, it's a concern," she said. . . .

"Last year, research published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics suggested that the iPad 2 can interfere with the settings of magnetically programmable shunt devices in the brain when held within two inches of the technology.

"That study reported on a 4-month-old girl with hydrocephalus -- abnormal accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) in the brain -- who developed a shunt malfunction. This was due to a changed setting of the magnetically programmable valve that regulates the flow of CSF out of the brain cavity, or ventricle. The mother had been using an iPad 2 while holding the infant.

"An expert noted how difficult it could be to detect such a malfunction. . . .
